Details: This interactive learning module, inspired by the classic Candyland board game, was designed for an introductory psychology college course.
Learning Objectives:
-
Genetics and Heredity: Students will gain a foundational understanding of how genetic traits and characteristics are passed down through generations, and how these inherited factors contribute to individual development.
-
Environmental Influences: Students will explore the interplay between genetics and environmental factors in shaping personality, behavior, and social outcomes.
-
Social Awareness: The module introduces students to key social issues related to genetics, heredity, and diversity, fostering critical thinking and discussion.
Gamification and Engagement:
By leveraging the familiar and engaging format of a board game, the module aims to enhance student participation, knowledge retention, and motivation to learn complex psychological concepts.
Placement within the Curriculum:
As an introductory module, it provides a stimulating foundation for subsequent coursework by sparking curiosity about the interplay of genetics, environment, and social factors in shaping human behavior.

Details: This interactive learning module, designed for a college-level biology course, employs the engaging aesthetic of a classic 1980s video game to explore the foundational concepts of microevolution.
This module was developed through a collaborative process involving me as the instructional designer and a subject-matter expert in biology. This partnership ensured the accurate and engaging presentation of complex scientific concepts.
Learning Objectives:
-
Microevolutionary Processes: Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms driving microevolution, including genetic drift, gene flow, mutation, and natural selection.
-
Population Dynamics: Students will explore how these microevolutionary forces interact to influence allele frequencies within populations over time, leading to gradual evolutionary change.
-
Adaptive Change: The module illustrates how microevolutionary processes can result in adaptations that enhance an organism's survival and reproductive success in its environment.
Gamification and Engagement:
By leveraging the nostalgic appeal and interactive nature of 80s video games, the module aims to enhance student engagement, motivation, and knowledge retention within a challenging scientific domain.
This gamified approach fosters active learning and provides students with an immersive experience to visualize and understand the dynamic processes of microevolution.
